Today’s assignment is only for people ready to do front line work. Everyone else can scroll past. It is likely that there will be a need for non-violent direct action (NVDA) over the next few months. Think sit-ins in Senate offices or blockades of government buildings. THREAD

NVDA comes with the threat of arrest. There is usually ample warning during NVDA that arrest is imminent, giving protesters time to back down, but that is not guaranteed. If you think you are up for considering this, here are things you can do now to prepare:

1. Identify an emergency contact who will not be a part of the protest and memorize their phone number. 2. Make sure your emergency contact knows what you are planning and when so that they are available to help you.

3. Consider each action carefully in terms of timing. Most of the time you will be let out on personal recognizance within a few hours, but if your health would suffer, take that into consideration.

4. When you participate in NVDA, take only a small amount of money with you and an ID. Take a few quarters with you in case you have to use a pay phone. Depending on timing, take one dose of your medicines that you can take immediately before you are arrested. Everything you

carry will be confiscated and not returned, so don’t bring anything you can’t afford to lose. 5. Immediately before NVDA, write your name, DOB, medical allergies, and emergency contact name and number on your arms with a sharpie.
