This is the study I mentioned in my Town Hall on Thursday, showing rapidly declining levels of detectable antibodies in the bloodstream in both symptomatic and asymptomatic people infected with COVID-19. Takeaways: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41591-020-0965-6 …

🔹 We often measure antibodies in the bloodstream to determine if someone is immune to an illness 🔹 With COVID-19 there has been hope that the same would be true 🔹 This is a very small study that requires more data

🔹 In this small study, antibodies rapidly dropped, meaning that immunity may not last and that people *may* be re-infected 🔹 BUT: it’s possible that local immune factors in the respiratory tract will provide immunity and prevent re-infection; we don’t have tests for this yet

🔹 Even those who have recovered should practice social distancing and mask-wearing until we know if they can be re-infected

Wonder if that means a vaccine wouldn’t work.
