Patients, please I beg you, don’t mention politics during our 10-15 minute appointment. It makes things feel weird and gross, regardless of your political views. We have 2 minutes of small talk, just tell me about the yard work you have planned this weekend & we’ll call it a day

Love you. Super disagree. Politics defines *everything* we do in medicine.

It sure does, that doesn’t mean I want to discuss what is or isn’t “fake news” during a 15 minute appointment when we need to discuss glaucoma or cataract surgery

That’s too bad and I’m sorry you’ve had bad experiences with these discussions. I’ve been having them for years during my 15 minute appointments and find them very rewarding.

I find it hard to believe that someone who signals their preferred pronouns is having political conversations during a medical consultation.

You should try it. It’s made for some amazing conversations.

I was being sarcastic. Of course you drone on about the inconsequential outrage of the week. I'm a normal person, I ask people about their interests, children, and grandchildren.

Lol. The original post was about patients bringing up politics. I follow their lead.
