In case someone posts this article in your timeline: This is an extremely misleading headline. That is not a widespread conclusion from the S Korea data at all. A better interpretation would be 1/2https://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/world/scientists-conclude-people-cannot-get-coronavirus-twice/ar-BB13tm64?ocid=sf2&fbclid=IwAR3igwS0UQKEGMHIiCFxduhL1KqTXVlDwyFyFqNbnWE0p8TTPJEybm2djVY …

preliminary evidence suggests that after initial infection, most people are temporarily protected from re-infection, but we have no idea if that immunity will last days, weeks, months, or years, so stay home for now until we have A LOT more data. 2/2

It comes from WHO. It may be that immunity is long lasting, we just can’t say that now.https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.newsweek.com/recovering-covid-19-doesnt-necessarily-mean-youre-immuneso-how-would-vaccine-work-1500640%3famp=1 …

What is your take on natural immunity vs a vaccine? i get that there is a question of how long the level of protection lasts for those who were infected, but doesnt that happen with vaccines as well?

Some vaccines provide very long protection and others have to be periodically boosted. Measles vaccine provides lifelong immunity for almost everyone whereas tetanus has to be repeated every 10 years. Flu vaccine every year because the virus mutates quickly. 1/2

We don’t have any idea yet where COVID will end up. Also, there are some viruses that we’ve never been able to develop vaccines for. Example: colds, caused by rhinoviruses; HIV; herpes. 2/2

besides waiting for a vaccine or some miracle drug, what other ways are there in your opinion?

Nothing that others aren’t saying: widespread, frequent testing with tracing of contacts of all positives, quarantine of all positives, wait 6-8 weeks between stages of opening so we can assess the effects of our actions, robust financial support so people can stay home.

There is no evidence that anything like that works.
