Who is saying go back to normal? I have seen no one say go back to normal. This is a straw man argument. People are still going out for essentials and SHOULD be wearing masks to protect others and themselves.

This. Using all these double negatives and exceptions just comes across as "Mask do not really work. No point in wearing them". It's like saying one thing but having your style of writing point into an entirely different direction.

Nobody is saying masks are a substitute for staying home. But for daily exercise, for grocery shopping for those who can’t get online delivery, for breathing in an empty elevator, a washable DIY cloth mask is a useful piece of protection. Don’t discourage it.

You say masks are "only" 50% effective, no? Same level of effectiveness as the flu vaccine (40-60%) which is extremely effective when all folks get it. It is really confusing to make arguments for benefits to the individual rather than the community to counter msg
