The photo is from the bridge between Matamoros and Brownsville. These are families who were sent to Mexico under the MPP program and are urgently asking to be let back into the US. These families have infants and young children. They have been staying in the camps in Matamoros.
Families are trying to cross because conditions in Matamoros are dangerous. Matamoros is listed by the US state department as a level 4 security risk, the same risk as Syria. People in camps and shelters are at risk of assault, kidnapping, and murder.
Additionally, conditions in camps and shelters are not sanitary. We want everyone to be able to cross, but lawyers are advocating for these families right now because the families with babies born in Mexico may be able to be paroled out of MPP.
We are asking you to call Port Director Tater Ortiz at 956 983 5704 and demand that these families be allow across. Also call your congressional representatives (especially if they are members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus). END.
