My medical assistant is, of course, going with him, along with their children, all American citizens, including their 8 month old baby. I’m telling you this to illustrate a point: even our *legal* immigration system is a problem.

Came to work today to a surprise: my medical assistant quit. Why am I posting about this? Because of why she quit. Her husband is in the process of applying for his green card-the way we tell people to!-and has been sent back to Mexico to await processing of his application

This family had to decide between staying together and leaving their home and good jobs, where they are contributing to our economy with their labor and their money, or splitting their family, leaving a mom to try to work and care for their children as a single mother.

Was the husband here on a valid visa? Does he have a job? who is sponsoring the greencard? I've had 2x different green card applications and yes had to go back to UK for interview, etc. But visa still valid and allowed to work here while processing... And it takes quite a while
