Tiffany Bond 🦞 🇺🇸 added,
I'm a geriatric social worker who has worked with Medicare issues for 30 years. Believe this - we want universal health care NOT Medicare for all!
The best M4A plans move coverage from 80% of fees to 100%, ie. no out of pocket expenses, add dental and vision. They eliminate the need for supplemental plans entirely.
So, that's not Medicare then, that's Universal Health Care. And that I am all for.
It's neither. That's a more robust single-payer. Part of why these discussions are not easy is we are using the same words for different things. For example, M4A is catchy, but many use it in lieu of a more comprehensive system or not an insurance-based system.
Sadly in politics, as I know you are aware, few read beyond the catchy title or headline...
Absolutely. We collectively spend a ton of time arguing because no one is clear on concepts.
I have navigated Medicare for my parents. Medicare is not sufficient. You have to have either a supplement or a Medicare Advantage program. With just Medicare you still have a 20% OOP cost or $40K after heart bypass. surgery.
M4A eliminates the gap. Services are covered at 100% instead of 80%. No need for supplemental insurance.
