Tl;dr: private insurance is not your friend & doesn’t care about you no matter how much you like them-a dispatch from family medicine. I had a patient come in today for something relatively mundane, a headache. No serious red flags. Straightforward from a medical standpoint 1/6

Being covered by shitty hc from birth to death, how awesome.

No. Being covered by healthcare insurance that is run by healthcare experts and patient advocates, not pharma and insurance industry execs, not legislators, will be awesome.

Yes! Why is it that people don’t understand that no one loves their ins company, they love their doctor? Any health program should let you “keep your doctor”, but change jobs or company changes plans - may lose you doctor anyway. GOP likes to use Single Payer as a scare tactic.

Also, we are the United States - a single country. If I’m traveling within the country, why shouldn’t I have “in network“ coverage wherever I am? Oh, because my private insurance limits this.

Very much agree with this. Though, I'd add that we use health insurance for far too many things; akin to using auto insurance for oil changes. Also, it is a dire need when we are at our most vulnerable, as I witnessed with my elderly father.
