As Pride Month comes to a close, I want to highlight some activists and officials who did amazing things in my local community.

Dakota Widenor and Irene Andrews of Bell County, who held the county’s first Pride Month event. Bell County is often thought of as very conservative, but with local activists like Dakota and Irene fighting the good fight, I am certain that we can open hearts and minds.
Jose Orta, who wrote a LTE for the Taylor Press, opening up discussions about LGBTQIA+ issues & events, along with historical context, in his community. His words deeply touched many. When we speak up, we let marginalized communities know that they are heard & supported.
Let’s all look for ways to follow in the footsteps of these brave activists! I’m proud to know them and will watch as they lead the way toward justice for marginalized communities in my district.
