It’s because they are *already* plugged into the circle of influence. They *already* have connections to high dollar donors. They *already* have the attention of power brokers. If you really want to change politics, you must ignore the breathless coverage of huge $ hauls.

Ask yourself *why* does candidate X have this much money? Then go look at their financial reports: they’re public information. If they have loads of small donors, great! But if most of their money is from the already rich and powerful? Will they really be working for you?

To be clear, campaigns are expensive. It costs A LOT to run an effective campaign, hire great staff, communicate with voters. I’m spending a ton of time raising money, because that’s our system, and I intend to do whatever it takes to win. I need all of your financial support.

But the people I’m working with and for are, for the most part, people who can only give $10, $25, $50. They are the ones who need champions in Congress. They are the people I will continue to talk to. They are the ones I will work for.
