So if I get a prescription my insurance will pay for it but if i buy it OTC it's on me. We won't get into why that drug is prescribed instead of OTC.

Yes, for some insurances, but not for all. If I'm recommending an OTC med, l'll write a prescription & let the patient know that it MAY be covered. If it's not, can talk to the pharmacist about less expensive alternatives. Not the best use of time, but that's our current system
