To be clear, I’m in favor of providing a full range of contraceptive access, including long-term methods for women, especially low income women. The intent of my tweet was to dispel the notion that birth control pills are too dangerous for women to have direct access.
I agree with your goal. I just urge caution on which path to get there. I think AOC is right on a lot of things but I don't believe she had this one thought out enough. And I also want to remind everyone that these pills are needed by trans-men and non-binary folks as well.
Some OTC things are covered by state insurance though. We prescribe cough medicine and allergy medicine for coverage by state insurance all the time OTC should not be a barrier. We should do all the things that improve access.
