We had no problems getting in and asking our questions. Here are a few highlights. 2/10pic.twitter.com/A2qaM20ZCu
1st question was on for-profit prisons, CoreCivic, etc. including why he took PAC money from those groups. Seemed upset by the suggestion and defended ICE detention centers as “safe”. Went off the rails and mentioned that he was against marijuana because it’s illegal. 3/10
I asked if he had a responsibility to meet with constituents who disagree with him. He said yes, but only one time on an issue. More than that would be a “waste of time”. 4/10
Questions about healthcare devolved into “I’m against socialism” without any real solutions for the parents who were there with grave concerns about their sick children. 5/10
A question about climate change from my friend @fmmiyakawa: don’t you want to leave a healthy planet and environment for your grandkids. Answer: scientists can tell us for sure that any changes we make will help so why try. Also, other countries pollute. 6/10
Has no opinion on Daylight Savings Time. 7/10
Is against an independent redistricting committee because then Democrats would win everything. Against term limits because you can’t learn the job in 6 years. 8/10
Question about dark money in politics. Answer: define “dark money”. That’s just a term Democrats made up and have never defined. 9/10
Personal highlight: when trying to answer a question from someone else, he called me out by name and said I was a “Demonstrator” who liked to protest at his office. Yay, I guess. But 2020 is coming and you haven’t seen anything yet. 10/10
You did great! You deserve a kid pic. Whoops no kids on this device Besides profile picpic.twitter.com/bDWGyWqTvQ
