We spent $5.2 billion dollars on the 2018 mid term elections. Over and over, candidates are judged as viable based on their ability to raise large amounts of money, despite the fact that there is no evidence that fundraising ability translates to effectiveness in office.https://twitter.com/djrothkopf/status/1079741527277166592 …

With Elizabeth Warren's announcement that she is forming an exploratory committee for president we begin the most consequential part of our corrupt and defective process for selecting a president-the money primary, when candidates must prove they can raise 9 figures to be viable.

Sadly, donations do seem to translate into electability. We need to fix the whole rotten system from top to bottom.

You mean effective for the general populace. There is ample evidence that they are quite effective for their big money donors.

It is really sad how much money and time go into your elections. The whole idea that a candidate needs that much money is insane considering how many people are poor, VETS need assistance, you don't have free medical care...the list goes on.

Yes🙌 we need to get big money OUT of politics. Our politicians need to work for us, not their donors.

I say 50% of all funds are taxed. And is not a tax write off for anybody or thing, aka corporations.

Imagine, once we’ve dumped millions into the primary process, and the many candidates I anticipate vying for the nomination, the grotesque $$$ that will go into the general election?!?

Yes. But that’s not the whole problem. The parties themselves and the media contribute by emphasizing money raised over any other factor.

What we need is to not drag Dem candidates through the mud. Doing Republican’s work for them isn’t smart. Talk up your preferred candidates. Tell us what you think is the most important about them. Don’t sling mud. Trump wallows in the mud not us.pic.twitter.com/bCdMHTnyFo
