Why do you “have to ask”? Does the father’s responsibility negate the responsibility of others? As a physician, we see a child who needs care and we take care of them, full stop.

Matters not at all what happened before the moment the child steps into our care. That’s the lens we are looking at this through. Blame is for later. Responsible adults take care of kids no matter how they got to that point.
