Unlikely. There is a lot of data that shows that “independent” voters don’t actually shift back and forth between parties. They are just as partisan as those that claim a party. I have an article or two about this somewhere but can’t find them. 1/2

When they get to the voting booth, they go with their usual party most of the time. So the key in the short term is to boost Dem turnout. These voters often sit out midterms. Work on changing party affiliation over time.
