I went to Moorhead last week (I didn't send my "staff"). People there want Medicare for All (now, not eventually). They don't want a senator who owns millions in medical device and drug company stocks. And they're sick of Trump's financial conflicts too.https://www.kvrr.com/2018/08/02/sen-tina-smiths-staff-visits-moorhead-for-health-care-listening-tour/ …

Most pathetic is the troll who insults me for not having "enough money" to pay a big staff. I raised about $250K which should be MORE THAN ENOUGH for a senate primary. The fact that Sen. Smith has spent well over $3 million is yet another example of how our system is corrupt.

wow. that is awful. Running for office should not be about how much $$ is raised. That is the evil of Citizens United.

It’s almost entirely about how much money you raise. Candidates are not considered “viable” unless they aggressively raise money. Groups like EMILY’s list and 314 won’t endorse you if you don’t meet their benchmarks of fundraising. 1/2

Media won’t cover you if you don’t raise big sums. It’s virtually all the media cares about when they write about candidates. The major news stories only include candidates who raise large sums. It’s one of the worst lessons I learned when I was running. 2/2

It beyond that - it's wrong. (Unless you WANT another all Republican, millionaire government. )

It’s not just on the Republican side. I’m a Democrat and was dismissed as non-viable by the local media and the local party because I only raised around $80,000 in the primary.

It terribly wrong - and I meant it will likely result it only affluent Republicans being the ones who get the most coverage / are able to spend / do more, & therefore more have more name recog, poss leading to a situ like our current gov't / Admin.

I got ya. Just be aware that it’s the same on the Dem side. If you don’t already have connections and money, it’s nearly impossible to get traction in the Democratic Party. Dems who are rich and well connected have a tremendous advantage. The playing field is heavily tilted.
