I just went to get my son’s Epi-pen prescription refilled and was told they’re out of stock due to a “national shortage.” ...is this actually a thing???

Are these available in Canada? I've had EpiPen auto-injectors fail on me when I needed them. Have been looking for alternatives.

I guess I would have to find out what the import rules on such devices are. But we are having similar shortages in Canada so I'd be in contact with Health Canada if you are looking for approval to distribute in Canada as well.

I would just teach a doc there how to make them. If the laws are like the US, physicians can only dispense to their own patients

Is there a public, yet off-line way of communicating about this? I have contacted my Member of Parliament about the failing devices. Just happening to have a potential solution to propose isn't the worst strategy where securing follow-up is concerned.

While autoinjectors make giving medications simpler especially in an emergency, it may be time to teach patients/carers how to draw up and and give epi the old fashioned way for when injectors are out of price or unavailable

The autoinjector I use is widely available - and yes you can teach but a nervous parent/caregiver or even someone who THEMSELVES is experiencing anaphylaxis would rather just grab and go

I understand totally but not everyone has access to a doctor like you. The concerns over vial use have long been debated but may have to be reconsidered. Safer to have access to the epi than no access at all and the cost is comparatively miniscule

Someone recently suggested that having the schools keep them on hand would be more cost-effective than having individual pupils each with their own that expire.
