At 15 feet range are you telling me that the ^223 causes more damage (or “cavitation” whatever) than a 12-gauge shotgun blast?

You can fire off 30 rounds in seconds - so yes- it can do a lot of damage- the AR-15 you can't just fire one.

These are not automatic weapons. One pull, one round. If you’re a surgeon surely you know singling out this weapon makes absolutely zero sense in the scheme of things.

I really don't want to turn this into a pissing contest... But having shot 3-gun competitively, and being a former police officer, I can tell you from personal experience that it's not hard to get off 2 or 3 rounds in a second with an AR.

I agree. I just can’t stand all the libs thinking the AR-15 is uniquely the most lethal weapon ever made when my 14 yo hunts with a more powerful 7mm-08, and that’s still not a real big cartridge.

My take on it is that the AR platform does make it easier for an unskilled shooter to put aimed fire on target at a much higher rate than larger hunting calibers, and that those rounds cause far more damage than handgun calibers. That's the takeaway here.

But you know full well that if we give in on the AR-15, the next school shooter shows up with an AT-308/AR-308 and does the same thing.

Agreed. That's why, as a firearm owner and a shooter, I think that the ease with which anyone can walk into a store and walk out 30 minutes later with a semiautomatic rifle is absurd.

But it’s the brains of these guys that are the problem. The AR-15 has been out since 1950. The psyche of our most dangerous is what’s changed. They’re all on psych meds. Don’t go outlawing a (randomlyselected) gun when it’s their brains—stupid! Let’s figure out the real problem

So are the brains of people in Canada, the UK, Australia, Japan and pretty much every other industrialized nation somehow "better" than American brains?

Some here are different. There’s an angst/anger/frustration that, when coupled with mental illness, causes these things to happen here and not elsewhere. It’s not the gun access. I truly believe that.

Respectfully, as a Canadian I disagree. We have mental illness. But we have no where near the proportional gun violence. It is so hard to watch this from the sidelines. I have no skin in your game, but I desperately want you to realize that there is a way out of this mess.

It's the middle of the night in Belfast and I'm watching US docs sort of debate the best weapon to get shot with, and by whom For what it's worth guys I never saw any gun that couldn't really screw up or end your life but since we dumped ours it's much much better for everyone
