This is not a choice we can turn down. UNSG @antonioguterres at the opening of the summit told world leaders that we stand on the verge of a precipice. And he was right. There is a better way!

Commitments must now turn into action, and other major emitters and financiers must urgently follow. If we deliver these pledges with vigor and fairness we will see more and better jobs, healthier citizens, and greater justice. This decade could be the most exciting in history.

The corporate and financial sector is also moving. Today’s commitment by 43 banks with $28T in assets brings the total stock of financial assets committed to net zero by 2030 to $70T. And today’s announcement of the private/public LEAF program brings hope to tropical forests.

These join earlier 2030 commitments from the EU (55% reduction) and UK (68% reduction), and China’s pledge of #NetZero by 2060. Together, they are all keeping the #ParisAgreement alive.

What to cheer about from today’s Leaders’ Summit? @POTUS's commitment today of a 50-52% reduction in GHGs by 2030, new announcements from countries like Japan, Canada, South Africa, Colombia, and South Korea.

The first #EarthDay in 1970 helped create the modern environmental movement. On this 51st Earth Day we urgently need another breakthrough. And there is hope! -- a thread

Today is my last day at @WorldResources after nearly 9 very happy and productive years. Tremendous thanks to all our partners and our 1500 wonderful, brilliant staff. I'm looking forward to starting the next leg of the adventure at the Bezos Earth Fund on Thursday.

The Earth Fund will invest in scientists, NGOs, activists, and the private sector to help drive new technologies, investments, policy change and behavior. We will emphasize social justice, as climate change disproportionately hurts poor and marginalized communities [4/5]

During my time @WorldResources we helped to change the mindset from that of “costs and trade-offs” to that of “investments and opportunities” and shown that radical systems change is possible and can bring a stronger economy, a fairer society and a better future. [3/5]

I am deeply honored to have been invited by @JeffBezos to become the first President and CEO of the $10B Earth Fund. It will address climate, nature and environmental justice. Jeff's goal is to spend it down between now and 2030, the date by which the SDGs must be achieved. [2/5]
