Now I’m not trying to justify the harassment in any way, but the scorched earth response YouTube had in response to this incident was awful and is impacting and even taking away the livelihoods of people on both sides of this argument.

"Now I’m not trying to justify the harassment in any way, but" The "but" means yes, you are trying to justify the harassment. Everything after the "but" is what you really wanted to say.

I didn’t say anything that justified the harassment though...I’m just pointing out that the aftermath of this incident is having major impacts on people who weren’t even part of this incident.

Again, YouTube's response was to the White nationalism, they had decided the harassment was okay

From what I know, Steven Crowder is not a white nationalist. He reminds me of my grandfather, a social conservative. That’s not equal to white nationalism.

How would you know? You didn't do any fact checking by your own admission.

I didn’t fact check this incident, but from the many times I’ve watched Steven Crowder’s videos, he does not have white nationalist tendencies. He’s just a conservative.

No I didn’t and I’m glad you told me. I can’t defend that and won’t even try. I do understand that YouTube is a private company and therefore is not subject to the constitution, but it really grates me on a principle level. Regardless of what side, people shouldn’t (cont)

have their livelihoods be taken away for opinions they have. It also doesn’t really help when this incident is impacting people who literally are not breaking TOS, ie history channels. The seemingly scorched earth tactic is pretty ridiculous

It is. YT has fucked this up every step of the way and that's a big part of the problem. Google has proven their inability to run the platform responsibly.

It is wishful thinking and may not even be something feasible, but I’d love to see a presidential candidate bring up the idea of an internet bill of rights. The idea of government intervention does bug me because I’m usually very against it, but I think it may be necessary.
