And also, it doesn’t really matter if you yourself don’t find the joke funny. Other people may, so it’s not fair to curb your comedy routine to appeal to the few who would find it offensive.

Or maybe you could just tell jokes that aren't lazy, prejudiced and stupid. That's always an option.

And yes, you can tell jokes that aren’t offensive, that’s fine too. But you should be allowed to tell offensive jokes as well. There’s a market for offensive jokes.

At what point does it stop being comedy and start being just a fucking dick? Or do you not think we should even draw that line at all?

Oh there definitely is a line, but sometimes being a dick is funny. There are some funny as hell insults out there, but they rely on you being a dick. Being a dick in the context of comedy isn’t genuine dickishness though.

You were fine up until that last sentence. Do you really believe there is no overlap in that Venn diagram?

For sure there’s overlap. But again, some people find being a dick to be funny. Hence why roasting is such a popular thing. You’re being a dick and really digging at people’s insecurities, but it’s all in good fun.

Is it all in good fun when Steven Crowder attacks people based on crude, out-dated gay stereotypes? Is it all in good fun to wear blackface with the intent of offending people? Is it all in good fun to refer to trans people as "traps" as if it were a punchline in and of itself?

Well at that point the person telling those jokes will have to reap the consequences they sow socially. Some jokes can get you shunned. However, that doesn’t mean they should be banned or not be a topic of discussion, no matter how crazy or dumb they are.

This is why freedom of speech is such a great thing. You’re able to challenge wild ideas. Censorship is never the way. It will make people with hateful ideologies fester and their beliefs will strengthen if they feel personally persecuted.

Absolute freedom of speech is a paradox. That's why there are are regulations on it. For example, inciting violence is NOT protected speech.

And because I know you'll ask why, it's paradoxical because having absolutely no lines drawn inevitably results in people who abuse their free speech to infringe on the rights of others and silence dissent.
