"Wokeism is a religion" rubs me the wrong way because I don't share the New Atheist assumption that religions is inherently poisonous or discreditable. And in fact, liberal Protestantism was historically a huge force for abolition, civil rights and anti-racism in general.

I prefer that argument to the "wokeism is a religion" one. It's true that some form of expiation & forgiveness, for example, would benefit social movements.

Surely one of the main reason wokism is compared to religion because of aversion to rational examination and debate? Have you asked people why they compare it to religion?
