This is madness. So much for #ITV. Where are all the presenters speaking up for him?

Three colleagues tonight, Julie Etchingham, Mary Nightingale, Carl Dinnen and maybe one more.

Sadly Douglas, the attack dogs pounce with outrage and Alastair has been left without any friends when it matters

What was the Shakespeare quote and the context in which he used it? (Amazing how quickly the actual details disappear from the easily recoverable record. Perhaps even repeating what he said to report it is now a sackable offence)

Perhaps all mention of apes and bananas should be banned, lest offence be taken by some passing stranger. Context is now irrelevant, apparently. The very words themselves are offensive. Guerilla Warfare will need to be renamed lest the first word is misheard and misconstrued.

It amazes me how people these days become offended so easily, it’s kinda scary and quite sad. To see a man who’s career of 40 years is ended by quoting a passage from Shakespeare is totally bizarre! I hope common sense reappears, sooner rather than later.

Why are people saying "we'll miss him" and eulogising? Does ITV just want to get rid of an older member of staff? This should be a Network moment: "We're mad as hell and we're not going to take this Marxist, politically correct, woke grievance culture ANY MORE!
