People just see a mob and this elicits fear and panic, as is natural. Individuals SHOULD fear mobs, it's a survival instinct as well as a rational response to a greater threat to your safety.

Back to the public square. The heretic is made known to the mob of dwellers as well as the individuals withing the group, keeping quiet. The heretic is condemned: Misogynist, satanist, Nazi, infidel, Jew, rape apologist, spaghetti monster believer, witch, leftie, alt-right, -

The dwellers pat themselves on the back, justice has been served. Congratulations all around. All that is left now, is punishment. The dwellers then take the guilty heretic, and savagely brand them with the word or words they choose that best fit the crime they are guilty of.

The guilty individual is then given two options. Firstly, they can chose to leave the group in shame. Sometimes the towns of Twitter, and Facebook as well, where they will disappear and never be heard from again.

Some will make it to towns like Gab or Minds but that's okay. They have labels branded on them as well, this way, their damaging heresy can never be heard back in the civilized world of Twitter and Facebook. Thus, the dwellers are safe, once more. They celebrate their victory.

This is why dwellers inhabit places of learning, power, and news/platforms where alternative views/news may be expressed. History is one long story, a saga. This saga has prequels, sequels, and spin-offs. Some are tales of heroism and triumph, others, tales of woe, and suffering.
