Lobby journalists have walked out of a Number 10 briefing after a senior aide tried to prevent some publications from attending. Reporters were divided and some asked to leave:

🇪🇺🇬🇧Thank you to all those asking where they can get one of the UK/EU ‘Always United’ friendship scarves I’ve had made. They were made as a gift for my friends/colleagues but I’m now making a small number available in a silent auction, with proceeds to

I made this dress by sewing two old dresses together,” Rebel Wilson says. “The red is from that one time I didn’t win Miss Australia. And the black is from a funeral I just went to for the feature film Cats.” . Nice.

The corruption of “woke” makes me nostalgic for the days of “PC”. Even if it was generally used to insult progressive values at least “political correctness” first took off as a critique of dogma and groupthink (esp Maoist). “Woke” is a proud, positive word turned on its head.

I respected Steve Baker for refusing to posture and gloat on Brexit Day. A rare instance of a leading Brexiter not being a top arsehole. Normal service has resumed.

What a shock. I met Andy a couple of times and he was formidably sharp: half charming, half intimidating. And of course one of the most original and influential guitarists ever: rock’n’roll minus the roll. I will miss him.

What happens when a middlebrow commercial thriller gets marketed as a Serious Literary Novel on the Most Important Issue of the Day! Sharp ⁦⁩ on publisher’s-eye view of the American Dirt fiasco:

Nobody thought May’s deal was a soft Brexit except Farage and the ERG. It’s very hard to look back on last March and think, oh, what a missed opportunity, I would be so much happier if that had gone through.

I’ve accepted yesterday’s outcome but I still feel the need to push back at sketchy counterfactuals and revisionist told-you-sos. We should at least attempt an accurate account of events.

Yet another sighting of the claim that May’s deal was substantially softer than Johnson’s, even though last year every analyst said they were very similar except for the status of NI. Weird, this insistence that a soft Brexit was offered & thrown away.

On the one hand, we must start the healing as a nation. On the other, a writer is meant to have the courage to tell the truth. And so here is my sketch from last night’s static knuckle-dragging carnival of the irredeemably stupid in Parliament Square.

If you're feeling down today, and fuck I dunno, but I can imagine there's a chance you are, then chuck on this week's Remainiacs. It's not all 100% sweetness and light, but it might cheer you up a little.

Superb critique of Sally Rooney which nails what I find unsatisfying and slightly dishonest about her very enjoyable books.

It is at least not as mad an argument as the claim that PV’s real agenda was to destabilise Corbyn, not to stop Brexit. People do talk a lot of bollocks.

Certainly campaigners were less keen on compromise by 2018 but it was never in their gift. Only MPs had that power.
