        Kingdom Hearts is such a rights nightmare that the producer of FFXIV, who is on SE's board of director's, won't go near the propery Nintendo absolutely knew what they could and couldn't get for this and that anyone's expectations might have been beyond "Just Sora" is hilarious

        A lot of things to speculate. Did KH3 finally releasing have a part in this? Knowing how stingy Square was with Cloud in Smash, with few songs & Spirits, did they similarly hold back on Sora? How much did it cost Nintendo just to get the Mickey logo on the Keyblade?

        I think it’s a combination of time & Disney & SQEX softening up with their IPs over the years. Plus given Sakurai’s stance on Video Game Characters Only, he probably didn’t want Donald, Goofy & Mickey in Smash.
