Gotta believe this article is leaving out information because surely human beings can’t be this cruel to young girls who can’t afford the basic necessities for a bodily function they can’t control. Idaho, do you plan to remove TP from the boys’ restrooms?

Parents of teens, we all better be talking to our kids. This scares the crap out of me & has become a repeated dinner table topic. I don’t care if my kids get sick of hearing it. Terrifying. Thank you #txlege for making this a priority this session!

Nothing says you believe in free speech quite like legislation that defunds universities if they teach history, current events, policy, political science, literature, government, or any subject that might somehow touch issues related to institutional discrimination.

The Texas higher ed anti-CRT bill under consideration now doesn't threaten action against individual faculty who violate it, it revokes state funding from *entire institutions* that violate it. This will encourage admins to remove faculty, possibly entire programs, preemptively.

General reminder. No member of the LGBTQ community wants a bigot to hang out at their wedding all day and take pictures. These people aren’t suing to *not do same gender weddings*. They’re suing to put a big “No Gays Allowed” sign on their website.

"Every once in a while, a bill comes along that creates a big-govt, complicated solution to a problem that can be resolved at the local level. School districts already have clear, established book challenge & reconsideration policies in place. They need only follow them." #txlege

“The Texas Legislature has wide authority to preempt local law. However, the indiscriminate use of this authority handcuffs local jurisdictions and shifts authority to a part-time Legislature that meets every other year.” ⁦

MUST READ: AG Ken Paxton’s office built a slam dunk trafficking case against two men who pushed Irma Reyes’ daughter into prostitution. But after turnover at the agency, which reports is under a cloud of dysfunction, the men got no jail time.

We’ve got two calendars set for next week — Tuesday and Wednesday. Appears that the first House priority bill coming to the floor is ’s #HB300 that’d exempt feminine hygiene products from sales tax. #txlege

HB 916 by has been passed out of committee! If passed into law, it would require health insurance companies, including Medicaid, to provide 12 months of birth control at once. A years' worth of BC on hand = consistent access to methods ppl want + need.
Every Body Texas branded image of text reading "HB 916 | 12 Months" and three lotería cards with illustrations of birth control methods on a golden yellow background. One card has the birth control patch on a blue background and text "El Parche," the second card has two birth control rings on a red background and text "El Annillo," and the third card has a circular pill pack on a blue background and text, "La Pildora."

TX already has shortage of doctors & nurses, & rural labor & delivery units are closing. We can't afford to lose more. #txlege must pass bill like HB2215 to clarify ambiguities in present law & allow doctors to practice medicine w/o fear of losing their license or going to jail.

NEW: For @Slate I spoke with doctors and nurses across Texas about navigating abortion bans that pit their ethical obligations to patients facing pregnancy complications against fear of incarceration. Providers are stressed, traumatized—and now, leaving. slate.com/news-and-polit

Up next: HB 2242 by Rep. @DonnaHowardTX which would expand safe gun storage education in TX. Our Executive Director, Nicole Golden, just testified in support of this simple measure that would provide invaluable information to millions of Texans through our highway messaging.

Breaking your ankle monitor is like breaking out of jail. The violent offender who killed 2 healthcare workers at cut off his ankle monitor months prior to the shooting & received no repercussions. HB 3549 could’ve prevented this tragedy.

While I don't usually agree with Chairman @ChrisGTurner, he's correct about the fact that appraisal caps do nothing to lower property tax bills and can highly distort the property market. In economics, we call this the "lock-in effect" where the appraisal cap locks people in… twitter.com/ChrisGTurner/s… Show more

New w/ : What happened to all the GOP campaign talk about exceptions to the abortion ban? You won't find much of it this session. Instead, lots of discussion about support for new parents and other family planning services.
