Today marks the first time that the Hong Kong National Security Law has been used to charge a civil society organisation. This demonstrates the expanding use of the law to silence the Chinese Communist Party's critics, rather than the avowed aim of restoring security.

The formation of a new Lebanese government must be followed by implementation of urgent reforms, a transparent conclusion of the investigation into the tragic Beirut explosion & timely elections next year. The UK supports Lebanon, but we must see concerted action.

Latest stats show 1.6m people on furlough down 340,000 from end of June and a peak of nearly nine million at the height of the pandemic in May 2020. Striking fall in the number of young people coming off furlough too - our plan is working.
