"without losing any quality" is inherently impossible. Why are you trying to convert from h164 to h265?

Got it. To save HD space, primarily. I undertstand it's better to export from FCPX directly into h265 to avoid this compression problem?

for exported files, yeah; try to avoid lossy->lossy transcodes when possible

your savings from H.265 aren't gonna be night-and-day, though; expect maybe 20%-range with current encoders
