As someone who grew up in New Zealand constantly drinking Bundaberg Ginger Beer, I am deeply offended that you would call it the same thing as ginger ale, and if I ever meet you in person I'll make you drink so much ginger beer that you never make this mistake again

Obviously you can keep going if you want to, which is how alcoholic ginger beer is made. Ginger Ale, on the other hand, is just carbonated water with ginger flavouring. This leads to a vastly inferior ginger flavour and more fizzyness. But for some reason it's popular in America
