Hi, I use quicktime player on my macbook pro, I believe the format is AAC. Quicktime has two settings, high and maximum. High is the AAC format, while maximum is 'Linear PCM'. I've tried both but neither worked, unfortunately!

It might not be the answer, but I’d try recording WAV within Audacity if you’re willing to install another program.

I tried recording directly into final cut pro using the voiceover function, which gave me a WAV file, but I got a similar result. Do you think it's still worth trying?

ah then your problem might run deeper Still have a hunch that it’s metadata errors. Try running into this free program. Your audio sample rate might be lined up with your video, but see if the frame rate lines up too. If not, have it match then export.https://youtu.be/VIc-jDqLOTw
