Not quite sure,as I’ve only studied standard dialect in detail. That said, I usually encourage people to study standard dialect, even if they live outside Tokyo, as it’s usually what they use in the classroom. Things can get a bit disjointed otherwise imho.

Reconciling textbook usage with real world usage is always one of the hardest bits, IMO, especially when many natives can't explain or don't notice themselves - no matter what language. Tokyo train conductor pronunc'n with intrusive n (次→つんぎ) was one of the 1st for me 日本で
