@Dogen I was watching an animation and saw a distinct construction:
ひとつのことを極め抜く
Translator said is "be a master only one thing".
I wonder about the grammar structure of 極め抜く. It's a verb inside a verb?

In Classical Japanese the ren'yōkei plus another verb had a similar function to what is now realized with verb+て+verb (e.g. 買ってみせる). Some of those structures are still productive while others are only used in the case of special verbs and should be learned as new words
