は & が Stage 1: How are these different? Stage 2: Oh this is easy, は is used with です, and が with verbs Stage 3: Ah ok は is for contrast, が for emphasis, simple Stage 4: Right now I get it, が points to what comes before it, は to what comes after Stage 5: Korean looks fun

Genuine question: Why do people consider the difference that hard to grasp? I know it isn't simple to understand right off the bet, but it definately isn't impossible. I can say that after a few years of self-studying, I know when to use each one depending on context.
