I'm a linguistics student and a patron of yours! I love how comprehensive your discussion of phonetics is and how clear it is that you have researched each topic thoroughly. I was wondering if you'd consider publishing some of your 日本語の講座 scripts? Thanks again!

Thank you! Are you talking about the comedic videos, or the phonetics lessons?

My native dialect of Spanish has no reduction either so this isn't too hard, but vowels on unstressed syllables do become a bit more central (ä-ɐ,i-I etc) is this the same phenomenon as Japanese?

For the most part, though Japanese is a pitch-accent language rather than a stress-accent language so it’s difficult to make a direct comparison!

Am I ret4rded or am I ret4rded?? I literally can't hear a difference between the right and wrong pronunciation tones of the examples you give!🥴

It can take a bit of practice—the examples in this video have less to do with pitch and more to do with vowel clarity, however. Note how the ‘English’ pronunciation of はしった sounds like a muddled “husheetuh” while the Japanese sounds much clearer, as in ‘hah-shee-tah’.

As a teaser this is extremely effective. I know this by the very real disappointment I felt when the video stopped. Kudos to you @Dogen. Perhaps Patreon is in the future. Any suggestions on what I need to know before studying your Patreon material?

At least six months of all around Japanese study, but that’s about it!

Do you do basic Japanese lessons as well? I see your 3rd tier is for advanced level Japanese but the other ones dont necessarily mention beginner or intermediate. Or is there someone/somewhere you recommend for beginner learning?

Hi! I actually only teach advanced pronunciation, but the example words and sentences are always quite simple, so as long as you have a basic foundation you should be OK! Hope this clears things up!
