There is too much truth in this sentence. As for me, I like to use the Shichihoude technique to turn into a commoner who doesn't understand Japanese, and only increases volume speaking English thinking that's going to help.

Meanwhile, me and my classmates found a great way to get rid of them when we studied abroad. We looked at the guy in confusion a few seconds, then said: 私は日本語が食べません。 Worked like a charm.

Somehow I forget how to speak Japanese or even function as a regular human being whenever they come. Also my clothes vanish. It’s so weird.

It's a TV tax collector. If you own a TV in Japan you're supposed to sign a contract with them and pay tax to them.
