I was so confused with this reply until I realized your reply wasn't about Japan being technologically advanced but about the cash thing :/

Japan uses cash for most things still, fax machines, paper everywhere in official offices (barely recycles if at all), no cash apps, no real uber (outside of tokyo), they just got debit cards in the past 2 years....etc.
