that's an offscreen character, presumed missing, technically dead. pink haired guy is asking the yellow-haired girl regarding the off-screen character. the argument is that the construction of the sentence (I think its the lack of pronouns) made it unclear whether its (1/2)
Normally wouldn’t use 妹 for someone else sister, but speaker corrects himself so it’s hard to call it either way. Need more info

unfortunately, that's all we got so far. Its an ongoing story and the storywriters pulled off a very vague sentence, making it hard to understand who's who. Thanks for the help anyways.
