as someone who's studied 5 languages, can confirm, self study is the best kind. That is, if you have the drive to keep going. Some people need that outside push, which, I think, is where education comes in.

Perhaps more directly to the point: Exercise your creative muscles. Reading and listening are important, but writing and speaking (and feedback from a native speaker) can take you further. This concept (active over passive) applies to learning nearly any skill.
