Microsoft has improved the Xbox DRM situation for disc games. As of the 2208 Xbox update, you won’t be forced to do an online compatibility check to play a game from an Xbox One disc
Just tested this on my Series X with a Xbox One game I’ve never played before (just in case any previous data could mess with results) and can confirm it does boot fully offline without needing to go online during installation like it used to
But obviously if you value the medium so little that it’s not a issue it being wiped from history with a server shuttering not a lot we can do to convince you.
database show, the vast majority of PlayStation games do not require patches and never ever require any sort of online connection whatsoever. If Sony can do it, so can Microsoft.
There's basically two issues left - removal of online activation requirement (use console out of the box w/o internet) and discs which don't include Series X versions or all game data. I think as cross-gen fades, though, the second point will improve dramatically.
Same. They're doing great work and we're excited about it. Gonna receive a nice shout out on DF Direct as well. It's fantastic that they're listening and making the platform better.
Nope I’m right here.I’m one of those people. Microsoft have taken a step to address one issue but more important ones remain. And I’ll continue to push this issue.

A small step in the right direction, however two massive issues remain.
1) the system cannot be set up offline / no guest accounts - so games require the internet regardless right now.
2) the issue with smart delivery forcing lots of releases to simply ship with empty code

Arcadegeddon PS4
Does it play offline - Yes* (Barely)
Does it require a download - No*
Extremely limited offline experience however the patch actually removes and breaks some offline features so we recommend to keep the game unpatched for offline play:
So, in that Fanbyte interview with Reggie he suggests this nonsense. Why do people keep banging this drum? Cloud streaming = inferior home experience and useless to poor mobile experience. No more enjoying games on planes or public transport. Glad he’s not in charge any longer.

Still disappointing to see the direction of the industry. If streaming were to become the only option I’d be done forever with modern games, personally.
I wasn’t planning on getting 100% completion in the Splatoon 3 story but I ended up having a complete blast with it lol. This is probably the first Splatoon campaign I’d say is pretty much worth the price tag alone, and according to my Switch it took me about 10 hours to beat it
I will say this, the moment gaming goes cloud or always online or ditches hardware is the day I hang up the controller. Can’t care about a medium that doesn’t care about it’s history
The Last of Us Part I PS5
Does it play offline? Yes, it's not from Ubisoft.
Does it require a patch? No*
Main game and DLC fully playable off disc, but we have a few notes:
Splatoon 3
Does it play offline? Yes*
Does it require a download? No*
Single player is mostly ok unpatched but local multiplayer requires a download for a lot of stuff:
Just Dance 2023 (PS5/XSX/Switch) is up for preorder at Target ($59.99) https://bit.ly/3LjqCIN#ad

Prinny Presents: NIS Classics Vol 3 Nintendo Switch
Does it play offline? Yes
Does it need a patch? Yes, but in one instance we recommend quite the opposite.
All the details:
The challenge of preserving video games isn’t just technical: it’s also about convincing the public that game history *is* history, and that it’s well worth saving. http://nyer.cm/7ukUGAW
Destroy All Humans 2 PS5
Does it play offline? Yes
Does it require a patch? We'd certainly argue yes.
Looks like alien content doesn't equal technical superiority:
did a wonderful job at testing it (as did aleccrp2001 back then). It actually has been addressed by patches. But, we have come across at least one game that shows issues with trophies. So we wanted to investigate more.
Since you mentioned patches for the issue: Yes, there were patches that addressed the #cbomb issue. PS4 should be fine now. However, we still come across reports of issues with certain PS5 games. More testing is needed, but people who want to rip apart their PS5 are rare.
"...CMOS battery is now completely hidden away under the heatsink. It was exposed before, making it easy to switch out, but Evans claims you’ll now have to completely disassemble a PS5 to replace the CMOS battery."
