    Electricity yesterday in UK (often like this). Wind, solar, hydro at 5.6%. Coal, gas (CCGT), bio (US wood chips) at 73%. Nuclear incl imports from France 20.5%. 😡Conclusion: No carbon and reliance on Renewables means blackouts + economic collapse. 🌳Better more nuclear

    Yes we keep getting fed that line based on some...creative modelling. Given climate is such a critical issue, perhaps going all in on technologies have have never, anywhere on earth, produced a grid with a CO2 intensity below that needed for sub 2c warming isn't a great move.

    A suggestion regarding Emergency alerts- provide some actual information rather than leaving people with the fear of the unknown. Sending out an alert about an “incident” at a nearby nuclear plant, while telling people to take no action, is not helpful.

    Pickering nuclear power plant had a false alarm today. I remember the 53 real alarms in 2005. Not Nuclear but Coal related smog alerts. Nuclear allowed the Ontario coal phase out which improved health and air quality and helped save 1000’s of lives and 10,000 hospitalizations/yr

    “nuclear slows renewables” ... The bloody objective is not “renewables”! THE GOAL IS DECARBONISATION. Only a shill trying to make a fast buck selling solar panels thinks that “renewables” is the objective in and of itself.

    This op-ed is typical nuclear nonsense discourse. Good thread—can only encourage climate folks to start thinking more critically about the governance questions here bc speed matters, & y’all keep getting it wrong on nuclear, which slows renewables.
