    Be stern, hold your ground... Just also acknowledge the effort that others may have put into it. Everyone knows how much it sucks to do something nice, and have the benefactor of that effort completely ignore it. If you want someone to TRY again, stop discouraging it.

    For those misinterpreting this as "Be nicer to men" All I'm saying is, don't punish behaviors and movements towards what you want. Don't punish the behavior you want to see. You can acknowledge the positives while critiquing the negatives, and BOTH need to be done.

    Men need to pick up slack in a lot of ways. Communicating to men in such a way that doesn't reinforce a lifetime of "you didn't do it right" without acknowledging the effort put into it, thus discouraging the effort in the future is definitely part of this conversation.

    If you're purely resorting to shame tactics to get what you want done, it's not a healthy situation. It's just going to lead to resentment and stubbornness. Society as a whole kinda sucks at not using punitive language. How often is "I appreciate your effort, but" used?

    I'm going to take a tangent here to talk about mindfulness, as that is a huge part of this problem. How do you communicate your displeasure in such a way that, if you were talking to yourself, you wouldn't be resentful at least attempting to do the job right?
