NeverTrump isn't going to hold this against the Democrats or the New York Times. At all. In fact, one reason they did it was to ping NeverTrump after a couple of catastrophic Dem debates and make sure they're still on board.https://twitter.com/MelissaTweets/status/1173606389140336640 …

So the media and Democrats (same group) are going all in on lying about Kavanaugh. Just in case Independents and #NeverTrumpers forgot who they are. Ugh.

I see people asking why they'd revive the Kavanaugh smear when it's something that clearly brings people on the Right together and aligns them with Trump. Dems don't see it that way at all. They think it rallies and motivates THEIR side and could shake centrists away from Trump.

Dems think controlling the media lets them write the final draft of history. They don't see any great downside in making some effort to keep an asterisk painted in crayon next to Justice Kavanaugh's name. They think they can manage the blowback - they're doing it right now.

Remember, the whole smear job on Kavanaugh started as a desperate last-ditch sore-loser effort to bloody him up and make the GOP pay a political price for the victory. They went nuts when it suddenly seemed they could kill his nomination by doubling, tripling, quadrupling down.

They'll keep doubling down because they don't want any draft of political history to say that Kavanaugh survived a dishonest, despicable slander attack. They HAVE to keep bringing it up forever, especially when they see news dribbling out that makes the attack look worse.

The Dems and their media aren't purely on defense, though. They're clearly rattled by what's happening in their primary and worried about keeping their voters motivated through the clown show. They need to keep impeachment fever burning so much that it's worth risking blowback.

Plus, as far as screwing up by motivating GOP voters goes: nobody who wasn't totally fired up to vote GOP by the horror show of the Democrat debates is going to suddenly wake up and refresh their Republican voter registration because Kavanaugh gets smeared again.

Tearing off the Kavanaugh scab isn't going to inflame GOP voters as much as threatening to rip their guns from their cold dead hands, dissolve the border, destroy private health insurance, etc. But a little BK blood right now could perk up Dems who seem wearily resigned to Biden.

It can also keep NeverTrump in line and possibly rattle a few voters loose from Trump. Dems would love a volunteer army of suburban female voters to spend election season lashing out at any man who would dare to vote for Trump the Rape Enabler and his Credibly Accused court pick.

Going after Kavanaugh again, and again, and again also sends a warning message to Trump's next nominee, who is very likely to come along before the election, and to every wobbly Republican who will be voting for that nomination.

When Trump makes that SCOTUS pick, every media outlet will turn into a 100,000-watt megaphone blasting this message into GOP faces: "You must support a nominee Dems approve of because last time you put a Credibly Accused Man on the court."

The Dems want every GOP senator to have queasy recollections of the Kavanaugh circus and be afraid to go through that again, times ten, with whoever replaces Ginsburg. They want those Republicans to be nervous about stepping into elevators.

It will be added to the already deafening demands for Trump to pick a liberal to "balance the court" and Dems howling at the moon about Merrick Garland. They want every possible brick of leveraged tossed on the scales early. Dems want the GOP to help them pressure Trump.

So this is definitely not an incredible blunder that will fire up the GOP base and tarnish Democrats in their eyes. They think they've rewritten Kavanaugh history to make it look murky, even something of a stolen Trump win, rather than a debacle for them. /end
