Michelle Cohen, MD Retweeted The Real Truther

Is it a failure of our education systems that people can't tell the difference between public health measures and atrocities like genocide or slavery? We talk about the significance of scientific and health illiteracy, but what about historical illiteracy?https://twitter.com/thereal_truther/status/1255160084323168262 …

Can we have ONE DAY where anti-vaxxers don’t compare public health measures that save thousands of lives to the murder of 6 million people because they were Jewish? Just ONE day. Am I really asking that much? #COVIDー19 #antivax #COVIDIOTS pic.twitter.com/66pWm3x9ZQ

How about also making sure everybody in school learns about argumentation fallacies as well! These arguments are ridiculous.

Yes, 100%. We need better much education on persuasive writing and how to competently debate ideas.

The number of casual references someone makes to slavery or the Holocaust seems inversely related to their understanding of history.

This. It also bears mentioning that this applies even if your disagreement with public health measures is justified. Like I think the aggressive ticketing of vulnerable people in many Ontario cities is a scandal, but it is not genocide or slavery.

Exactly. All injustice doesn't automatically equal the worst imaginable violation of human rights. Ideas like these are clearly coming from people who have never had to think deeply about injustice. That may be why these anti-lockdown protests are so overwhelmingly white.

OMG. Not surprised, I guess, in light of all these other completely ridiculous comparisons.

Or critical thinking. Certainly we have failed in teaching people to think critically
