2/ When you say something won't even be talked about, you set yourself up to look deceptive when it inevitably is. You put yourself in the position of either not even letting the other side explain their interests or of contradicting your promises, right from the start.

3/ "BUT BORIS JOHNSON IS LIAR, HE WILL SELL NHS TO AMERIKANZ AND CHLORINATE MY CHICKEN NUGGET," you shout at me. That's a valid opinion, but let's be honest and admit there's literally nothing Boris Johnson, DIT or anyone else could do at this point to make you stop holding it.

4/ Either you believe a Boris Johnson administration will cave on these issues or you don't. Whether the issues arose in some meetings DIT staff took with their counterparts (or even industry) before negotiations even started doesn't change that calculus one iota.

I agree except for the fact the circumstantial (documented) evidence aligns precisely with the economic ideologies of the current Gov, & they denied it, & they redacted it
, & they’ve consistently lied about most other subjects
Hard to be open minded at this point -
This is exactly my point. If the Government had said from the start, "We know they'll raise it, and we'll hear them out and explain how the NHS works but we won't be changing it," then they wouldn't be in this mess.

Aust-us fta is a likely model on these issues. The text talks about drug pricing, food standards but has made little practical difference.
-
Very possibly. I wonder if the UK would be happy with AUSFTA levels of prefential market access.

Isn’t the real question whether or not boris government will concede this and what if anything will we get in return?
-
That is indeed, the real question.

The key detail is the US will be in a far stronger negotiating position than us. We'll be desperate for a deal, so the US will set the terms. The documents clearly state the US want us to reduce food standards & pay more for drugs. If we refuse, they can simply play hard ball.
-
One hint might be the TTIP negotiations. The US pulled out of these negotiations because Trump did not consider the concessions by the Europeans sufficient. You can be sure that the UK (being a much smaller economy than the EU) will not get better conditions.
