    Now we are getting somewhere Mr Minister. How come these frivolous studies are not done to Eskom SAA SABC Denel Prasa Transnet so that these iconic SOEs can benefit from "Patronage Guarantees"? Mind u that SOCs are the most important economic vehicle for our country and SADC

    Gautrain receives R1.2bn in the form of a patronage guarantee. This is a form of subsidy government gives to the concessionaire based on the traffic study that gets done before the financial closure of the project.

    Everyone knows the DA are the defenders of WMC They are forever complaining on how the Guptas & Zuma collapsed our SOEs What doesnt make sense to me is that they are advising government to sell "collapsed companies" to their WMC bosses. Isn't it that bad advice to their bosses?

    So Minister you are not denying my main assertion that R1.2 billion of taxpayers money is spent on Gautrain annually?

    Gautrain receives R1.2bn in the form of a patronage guarantee. This is a form of subsidy government gives to the concessionaire based on the traffic study that gets done before the financial closure of the project.

    FACT CHECK: It isn’t a bailout- Gautrain is a public-private partnership which required the private operator to provide capital and build the system, then recoups their money over the term of the concession. In the Gautrain instance, the concession is for 15 years.

    Every year government spends around R1.2 billion in bailing out Gautrain. But there's no talks of privatizing it. You know why? It's not profitable. Cyril and Gordhan are intentionally destroying profitable (or potentially profitable) SOEs in order to sell them at lower prices.

    Minister, nidlala nje ngamagama, it is the same thing. Government pumps in billions of rands(taxpayers money) on annually. You can say "it's not a bailout" but the fact remains, without those monies, Gautrain won't sustain itself.
