Walgreens and other big retailers have spent the past few years fomenting a panic about shoplifting that the media was all too happy to push uncritically.
In January, a Walgreens exec admitted it was overblown.

In short, this nomination doesn’t legitimize Choe so much as it exposes what a farce these awards are.
At the same time, much of the schlock local TV news puts out is almost identical to Choe’s garbage, so maybe he does deserve a sham award?

Many City employees making way less are ineligible for overtime.
