When I arrived there was some confusion. It seemed I was expected tomorrow, and alas they were fully booked for tonight. I recalled my cab (I’d had lovely conversation with the driver, so he was happy to come back for me). While I waited, the very kind wait staff took care of me.

They took me to an empty diningroom and gave me a glass of champagne and some loves amuse-bouches!pic.twitter.com/V05H9HVq7R

Which were very tasty indeed! Then they brought me a chilled Vichyssoise, and more champagne! I started to tell the wait staff (in French) about my daughter Zoe Mae, who worked her way from dish dog up to Chef de Cuisine in San Francisco’s fine dining scene...pic.twitter.com/VLgKcHp2dT

And then the Maitre d’ told me to cancel my taxi because they’re going to give me a table in the kitchen! Now they’ve brought me a menu, and I’ve ordered Truffle Soup (a house specialty since 1975) and Filet of Sole (my favorite fish).pic.twitter.com/Rhuh2YMlVc

They didn’t have to do any of this...but they’re lovely (and they love people who love haute cuisine). Suddenly I’m having a fabulous night!

I hope that you enjoy your dinner. Our visit, on Bastille Day 1983, was among the best meals of our lives, and Monsieur Bocuse was there to greet us.
